What is the capital of Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is one of the most attractive and blessed countries with many more natural resources. Sri Lanka is an island country in South Asia, located in the Indian Ocean. Capital of Sri Lanka is Colombo. Earlier capital was Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte. There are many more things to visit in Colombo as well as all over the island.


Colombo is a well-facilitated city with all kinds of infrastructures and the most prosperous city on the island. This is the commercial city and largest city in Sri Lanka by population.

Colombo is known as the most popular tourist destination and it is a city with multi-religious, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural groups of people.

Colombo is a trader friendly location from ancient times to the present. The capital city is equipped with artificial harbor expanded over the years, international airport and other all commercial and administrative offices which are helping hands for the traders.


Colombo has an extensive public transportation system with buses and train.

There are well-facilitated buses in the public and private sector. Bandaranayaka International Airport as well as Rathmalana Domestic airport also located in the city. Transportation is facilitated with many expressways that connect from various destinations to the city such as Kandy, Galle, and Matara, Negambo and Putnam, Rathnapura and Batticaloa.


All over the island, there is a tropical rain forest climate, which everyone loves to enjoy. Colombo has a fair temperature climate than other parts of the island. Although it has a fairly temperature, tourists always enjoy the climate.

1. Galle Face Green

This is one of the most popular ocean-side urban parks among locals and foreigners, which spreads along 500m of the coast. This is a place to enjoy the evening time for children as well as family together.

2. National Museum of Colombo

This is also known as the Srl Lanka National Museum and it is the largest national museum in Sri Lanka and it showcases the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. It was established during the British governing period by the British governor.

3. Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple

This is the most popular and great significant place for tourists and locals. The temple has architectural value, as well as premises, consisting of a museum and a library. This temples’ architectural creations featured by Thai, Indian and Chinese designs.

4. The Independence Square

It is known as Independence Memorial Hall too. This is a significant landmark that proves the celebration of independence by Sri Lankan citizens from the British rule and a must-visit place for travelers.

5. Dehiwala Zoo

Is known as National Zoological Garden in Sri Lanka which is expanded with more ranges of animals and more facilities. While visiting the zoo do not miss the amazing events of sea lions, chimpanzees and elephants.
