As GrowthPoint progressed on their Office 365 journey, Alec Davis, CIO at GrowthPoint, learned that real estate investment holding companies would need a third-party backup solution to protect their data across Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint Online.

“When push comes to shove, if you don’t activate features like litigation hold [in Office 365] up front, then you don’t have [your data] and then it’s too late to know after the fact that you have to have enabled the button up front,” Davis said.
“We find people missing content or intentionally removing content, either with malicious intent or because of [accidents],” Davis said. “When the incident occurred, it became very clear that we needed some additional product.”
The company found the original third-party solution they chose for Office 365 backup didn’t meet their requirements
“We have solutions with the likes of Mimecast that were originally purely around email archiving. Nothing around calendars or contacts,” Davis said.

“Now all of this strict email content is archived, but it’s not easy to go in and recover it,” Davis said. “You can find them again, but getting them back into the same structure that people had before is quite tricky.”
“This is our first procurement and the process is very simple. Of all the solutions we have, this is by far the cleanest solution to implement, the least touching our environment,” Davis said. “Installation is really hassle-free. There is no disturbance to the environment.”
GrowthPoint uses Cloud Backup to automatically run up to 4 backups a day in their Office 365 environment seamlessly, without any impact on their users.
“The API goes into the Office 365 environment and literally you choose what you want from OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, to contacts or email,” says Davis. “It was easy to enable across our user base.”

“That’s the key I think with this kind of software for us—which is just as good and quick to use as doing a restore,” Davis said. “With the return, the proof is in the pudding.”
Growth Point also takes advantage of the Cloud Backup reporting feature which allows them to view details of their four most recent backups via an easy-to-read dashboard of reports including job status, time completed, total number of successful/failed/slipped items, and suggestions on how to resolve issues.
They can also track and manage all of their backup and restore processes through a central management console in addition to getting full visibility into how services are accessed by their users.
The bottom line for GrowthPoint is that they get the backup and data protection they seek for their Office 365 environment.
