Up to 12 or 13 Tyrone residents were evacuated from the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue after a fire destroyed their home on Monday, July 18.
Neptune Fire Company Chief Alan Walls told the Daily Herald that at least four people were inside the two-bedroom apartment when the fire broke out.
Fortunately, none of the residents were injured in the fire. However, Walls then allegedly jumped out of a second-floor rear window to escape the flames.

“Two men escaped through the back window, and the other two escaped through the roof of the back porch,” he explained.
Wallace said the call came in at 3:59 p.m. About the incident, 14 different crews from different fire departments — including Excelsior, Bald Eagle, Sparkling Hook and Ladder, Neptune and Pinecroft — responded.
Firefighters worked until 9 o’clock in the evening. A total of four rental properties, owned and managed by Verilla Property Management, and a nearby privately owned home were destroyed by the fire.
A dog was rescued by one of the residents and a cat was reported missing, Walls told the Daily Herald.

Tyrone native Nathan Verilla has enjoyed much success with his real estate business, Verilla Real Estate, since opening in Altoona. Verilla is currently in the process of hiring more agents and plans to open a location in his hometown of Tyrone this spring.
Verilla started in the real estate business in 2011 as a property manager, became a real estate agent in 2014, and opened his own business in 2017. By the end of 2019, he had 40 agents around Central PA. Across central PA, with over 300 units.
Verilla said she enjoys meeting and interacting with people. He decided to get his real estate license to help people on both sides, both buyers and sellers.

Verilla is a 2000 graduate of Tyro Area High School, where he was a member of the 1999 state championship football team and coached for 10 years. He is also a former member of Tyro Borough Council.
