Pikus Real Estate and Property Management is giving back to the community in many ways to help the children of Stark County have a better, brighter vacation.

Shirley Pikus, owner of Pikus Real Estate and Property Management, said the property management company was lucky to be able to adopt two families this year through Rivertree Christian Church. The children of both families were raised by single mothers. Pikus Real Estate and Property Management bought toys and clothes for the children and their mothers. Additionally, each family received a gift card for Christmas dinner.
The company also provides shoeboxes for the Christmas Children’s Action. The group collects children’s items such as pencils, pens, crayons and other small toys and personal care items to fill shoeboxes. The boxes are then sent overseas to vulnerable children.
“I’m lucky to have my family, my business and this growing property management company,” Picus said. “I believe I should give back to the community that supports my cause. It’s a blessing to be able to help those in need.”
Finally, through Project Kare, the agency is also able to provide teens with stockings full of hats, gloves, candy, games and personal care items. Project Kare supports children in the Stark County foster care system. “These kids need to know they are cared for and loved, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.”

Christmas tree lights twinkle every season, both inside and outside of the house and at the various locations that provide illuminated displays – Akron Zoo, Stan Highwitt Hall and Canton Stadium Park, to name a few.
The Thanksgiving dinner is not over, and the leftovers are stored in the refrigerator. The jingle bells are already being heard in some communities before the football games of competition week begin; a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus; and the community tree is ready to be lit.
This year, the community is on a time crunch as the Thanksgiving holiday is a week later than usual. While many communities may traditionally light up their Christmas trees on the first weekend of December, this year seems more likely than ever to hit the next holiday.
The City of Massillon leads all Stark County communities with its holiday parade and Christmas tree lighting at Duncan Square on Nov. 23. The rest of the county is planning their Christmas bash after the turkey holiday.

The town of Plains kicks off holiday festivities the day after Thanksgiving. While some people continue to shop during the Black Friday shopping spree, the town will be lighting up their Christmas tree at Diamond Park on November 29 at 6 p.m.
The festivities will include food trucks, local traders setting the table, and lighting some bonfires around the park to keep families warm. Fun and games will be readily available to keep the whole family entertained. By the end of the evening, the lights in the park will be turned on for the holidays.
The city of Louisville continues its weekend festivities. The city will be lighting up their Christmas tree in December. 1 Light Up at 308 S. Mill St. from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Louisville Chamber of Commerce.
This family-fun-filled activity begins during the day and ends in the dark of evening as the sun begins to set. Participating families will be able to grill hot dogs and swamp mellow before the tree is lit.

Canton: Lite Up Downtown in Canton on December 5th at 6 p.m. The event takes place in 12 city blocks until 8 p.m., offering entertainment and lighting up the Christmas tree in the town square. Of course, Santa and Mrs Claus will also be there.
Families heading downtown will have the opportunity to skate, visit local restaurants, enjoy fine dining, visit down merchants for gift ideas, and enjoy a stroll around the city. This activity is good for every family member. Bring the family and have fun together. The evening ends with a fireworks display.
Jackson Township: The Township of Jackson completes community celebrations and Christmas tree lighting. Residents of Jackson will welcome the holidays starting at 5 p.m. on December 8. By 7pm at North Park. In addition to lighting up the Christmas tree, residents can enjoy gourmet food, hot chocolate, and light-hearted entertainment.
