By Timothy R from Lancaster, NY, Posted: 08/20/2022 There is so much to see at Moxie on the Lake First let me say the place is beautiful and every evening we have a great experience at make up. The apartment was clean and well organized (although not ready when we arrived at check-in time). There are many things to be aware of. The best feature is that the house is raised on a hill and has a very steep road. The last guest house has to go up a high road. Getting down to the pier means a lot of stairs or a steep path. If there are seniors in the group, this can be a problem. During our stay, the hot pot cover broke so it took two adults to open and close each time it was used. There is a fixed AC unit on the main floor in the living room and windows in each of the two floor bedrooms but the basement where the other bedrooms are located does not have AC. The last resort has one AC unit for the entire apartment. Be prepared for ATVs, sidecars and other vehicles that are constantly coming up the driveway and road from the construction company outside the building next door. Our biggest complaint is probably the problem we had with our boat. We decided to rent a house with a dock so we could use our boat for the week. We were told in advance that the lift could not be used but there were anchors that could be tied to the boat. When we arrived, we found that the boat could not be secured to the moorings without damaging the boat, the dock or both. We asked the owner if we could easily dock the boat to the four docks from the jet ski lift (these are docks year round so docks are always installed). The owner refused saying that he didn’t want us to use the piers (even though 2 of the 4 boats offered to us were already docked!) We were told to take the boat to the marina and started there. We did this for two days before leaving. If you are on vacation do you want to pack the kids in the car, drive to the marina, pay extra and take the boat to and from the car every day?? Needless to say this puts a real damper on the week. Thank you, Timothy, for being with us and for sharing your experience. We apologize for your boat trouble. As we discussed during your stay with us, because the ponds are shallow your boat should not be attached to the dock in any way. Given the unpredictable nature of this summer’s weather, we hope you appreciate the credit for your trouble. Be sure to visit our visitor services before your next visit to the Finger Lakes to make sure your vacation plans are met.
