Matt began his career in real estate 18 years ago as a mortgage loan officer, a role he continues to thrive in today, and has spent the last 16 years investing. He purchased his first investment property in 2004, a single-family home through a short sale, which is a rental unit he still owns. However, he over-improved the property, spent too much money on renovations and mismanaged his tenants. Along the way, he learned the challenges of having a full-time job and being a landlord, as well as how to effectively leverage other industry professionals to improve his investments. Matt explains that this experience drew him to local real estate investing, and he now owns over $16 million in rental properties personally and with partners.

Matt has accumulated over 25,500 hours of experience – over 7 years 24/7 – and has personally invested over $1.87 million in rental rehabs since 2004 and an additional $4.55 million in flipping properties since 2008. After making just $500 on his first flip, he re-evaluated the strategies others were using and learned how to buy real estate efficiently, get the most bang for your buck when renovating, and how to price a home for the fastest and most profitable return.
Helping others thrive is where the REAL satisfaction comes from – Matt has focused on consulting locally with his experience ranging from leasing, land ownership, hard money lending, fix and flip, destination and wealth building as an investor. He has served as President of the Utah Valley Real Estate Investors Association (UVREIA) for 9 years, a board member of the Salt Lake Real Estate Investors Association (SLREIA) for 11 years, a member of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) for 7 years and is a member of the Mortgage Association of Utah Professionals (UAMP) for the past 6 years.
Matt is an extremely grateful husband to Edie and the proud father of his two sons, Matthew and Walker, and stepdaughter Jocelyn.
Leilani started working with Matt Atkinson in 2006, when she received her bachelor’s degree at BYU. She first helped develop an organized rental property system (what Matt loosely referred to as “property management”) and later began working with investors who wanted to build rental property portfolios and make a fortune by flipping properties.

Lani assists with MJA’s training programs and has been involved in curriculum development and presentations for seminars, workshops and boot camps. In her spare time, she likes hiking, traveling, reading and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Dominic attended his first real estate training in July 2003 and 8 months later, using the rental strategy, he purchased his first single family home for $10. He later sold the same property using a lease option and has gone on to buy and sell over 100 properties through creative financing strategies over the past 14 years.
He has done short sales, subs, seller financing, hard money financing, and a number of other strategies in between. His leadership qualities, hands-on experience and “hustle” mentality have given him a unique advantage to grow and adapt to different market cycles, and he is a constant learner in the evolving world of real estate. Dominic has been with MJA Real Consulting since 2016 as a valued team member and acquisition consultant.

Dominic volunteers as a board member for the Salt Lake Real Estate Investors Association (SLREIA), where he has found value in giving back to local investors looking to improve their knowledge. In addition to enjoying real estate investing and the lifestyle it can provide, he is a happy husband and father of two.
Christine Hacking was born and raised in Vernal, Utah. Although Christine is new to the MJA team, she has many years of experience in the world of property management. He has 9 years of managerial experience. Specializes in single-family and multi-family portfolios while bringing new owners into management. Christine gained untapped experience and knowledge by being an active part of groups such as NARPM and The Utah Apartment Associations.
With a valid real estate license, she specializes in selling tenant-occupied homes, assisting in the acquisition of properties with additional rental income, and analyzing rents for the best cash flow. Since joining the MJA team, Christine has developed and will continue to develop best-in-class proactive management solutions, not only for previous clients and our team, but for many others as well.
When she is not working, she enjoys spending time in the mountains, camping with her family, visiting Disneyland, or anywhere on the beach.
