Messbarger Property Management

Messbarger Property Management – I grew up in several parts of Virginia as a minister’s child. I am the eldest of two daughters. Women were just beginning to be ordained in the Lutheran Church in 1970, so I didn’t really see women as adolescent pastors. I graduated in English, Linguistics and Speech with a high school diploma. I taught high school English for two years in Baltimore, MD and one year in Hagerstown, MD. After recognizing that I would rather teach people about Jesus than about Shakespeare, I moved to Gettysburg as my Master of the Divine. My internship took place in a 35-person town in North North Dakota. I fell in love with the Midwest and finished when I met the requirements for my degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary. I had a great mentor who encouraged me to do my PhD in Religion. I went to Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary on the Northwestern University campus for a PhD in Congregational Studies with an emphasis on Religious Education. For nine years, I served my first calling at the Lutheran Church on Mount Zion Haugh in Keymar, MD. During this time, I was also an assistant professor at Lancaster Seminary, Wesley Seminary and Gettysburg Seminary. I was for a time the director of Lifelong Learning and Certification Programs at Gettysburg.

I am a certified Facilitator of Healthy Meetings. I like to combine ethnographic studies and listening skills with the theory of family systems. I like reading and playing Scrabble with my mom. Someday my craft room will be finished at home and I can go back to doing my artistic endeavors. I also like traveling at home and abroad. I always have a backgammon board with me when my husband and I are traveling, have fun while waiting for food in the restaurant or in the evening with a glass of wine. We enjoy living in Kearney with our nine year old Maltese / Bichon mix, Natasha.

I grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota, is the youngest of four children. After joining the Covenant Players, a Christian theater theater, and serving as a counselor at the Lutheran Bible Camp, I felt called to be a Lutheran pastor. I graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, then went to the Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA. After completing my master’s degree in theology, I went straight to the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, for a PhD in biblical science. My first call was at ALC in a three-point parish in Roseau, Minnesota. My second call was to Trinity Lutheran employees in Moorhead, Minnesota. In 1990, I received a call to the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary, where I had many hats, including a New Testament professor, internship director, candidate coordinator, and director of theological studies. I have served in this calling for 27 years.

I have three children, two live in Virginia and the other in Oregon. I enjoy playing Fantasy Football in our church league and league in Las Cruces, NM. I love international travel, especially to the Middle East, Italy and Greece. My wife Michelle and I were married in a historic home with 13 people present at the Gettysburg Seminary campus in June 2004.

I grew up in a suburb of San Francisco, California with my parents and an older brother. As a kid, I was a competitive rhythmic gymnast, part-time footballer, and my first job was carrying frozen yogurt at a local mall. My family was involved in the local ELCA congregation, and this community is the place where I first experienced God’s love through service to others.

I graduated in psychology at Pacific Lutheran University and met Jacob. We got married after graduation, and then I finished my master’s degree in social work. We then moved to Milwaukee, WI where Jacob earned his MA in Architecture. Our son Jens was born in 2012 and he has been making us laugh ever since.

I have worked in youth ministry quite by accident for over a decade. When I finally got word that God was calling me to the ministry of ordination, I began a seminary in Wartburg, attending mainly at Zoom, working as a youth director at Madison, WI.

I love my job! I graduated from Wayne State College and spent a year teaching at a two-room country school near Valentine, Nebraska. Then I moved to Kearney and taught at Emerson Elementary Nursery. Then I became a home mom to three young children and completed my online MA in Reading at UNK in 2016. Soon after, I started teaching here at the First Lutheran Kindergarten. I taught 5 years in a 3-4-year class in the Kindergarten of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church and now I am starting a new adventure in the Pre-K classroom as a leading teacher.

My favorite quote is: “Character is the way you act when nobody is watching.” I am lucky to work and be among many good people.

I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to be an assistant to a 3/4 year old preschool teacher at the First Lutheran Church for the past eight years, and I am excited to jump into the role of head teacher this year.
