But it seems the property owner is still contacting him about paying overdue bills for bills he never received, so the vet asked the troubleshooters for help to resolve this.
He has already found a new place to live for him and his service dog, Bane. He says he is a 100% disabled veteran, having served in the first engagement of Desert Storm.

He lived at the Bay Tree Apartments on Ocean Drive from October 2019 to April 2021. But as soon as his lease was up, Hinojosa told the Troubleshooters, he had to move out.
The “they” Hinojosa refers to is GVA Management, which took ownership of Ocean’s Bay Tree property in September 2020. Tenants were notified in a letter that read in part:
“Apparently they want back rent that they say I didn’t pay,” he told Troubleshooters. “Or water, sewer and garbage collection, which I never received bills for.” I also have gas bills and never received a gas bill from the original owners. I don’t even have a gas oven or anything. the apartment is fully electric.”
GVA Management is based in Austin and owns 17 properties in Corpus Christi, but Troubleshooters began receiving emails from disgruntled GVA residents in May. One of them was from Hinojosa.
Here’s What Affordable Home Projects May Be Coming To Corpus Christi
On December 6, 2021, we contacted GVA Asset Manager Jake Paul regarding the Hinojosa situation. He told us we would take care of it.
“It’s just very frustrating when you know you’re right and these people just lie to you and try to bully you and pressure you and expect you to roll over. And they just want to take your money,” he told us.
So we reconnected with Paul last week and ended up speaking with GVA Executive Vice President Laura Smith. We received their response Friday afternoon in an email that read in part:
“We have investigated Mr. Hinojosa’s concerns and identified issues with his account. We have corrected the issue and cleared the collection account. We appreciate the opportunity to correct the situation.

In relation to other resident complaints, without details about the situation, we cannot investigate or respond to their concerns. We encourage these residents to contact us with their specific concerns so we can offer a solution….
GVA prioritizes care for all residents, always. We recently had a change in our leadership in Corpus Christi and we do not want residents to feel like they are not being heard or their issues are not being addressed. We checked with Hinojosa to make sure he was aware of this latest development. He says he checked with the collection agency and they told him they are just waiting on paperwork from Jake Paul to clear his account and it should be done by Wednesday.
