“John had his own vision of wanting to focus on brokerage sales, and that opened up an opportunity for me to take over property management,” Frias said of the creation of the two separate companies. “It wasn’t necessarily planned — it just fell together in a good way.”
The shift in Forment’s direction clarified Frias’ career purpose, Frias said. He formed the new company, keeping the Formant property management team together.
“John wanted to go into brokerage sales, so I wondered what I wanted to do and after doing this for thirty years, I’m a property manager and I can’t change that now,” Frias laughed.
When Forment decided to focus on brokerage, he spoke to Frias, asking him to consider starting his own firm.

He turned to me and said, “Michael, I like to make my customers feel better. I don’t know where to go,” Frias recounted. “If you want, talk to the people in the office, maybe they’ll work for you and you can take it forward with your own vision.
