“Many of us go to these apartments because we can afford it. We might have things on our record and stuff like that. Don’t treat us like second class citizens because we are going through something. We are like everyone else. We need suitable housing and shelter for our children,” said the resident.
Since the warning was issued, the BBB says there have been eight new complaints between the two complexes. A number of complaints have been responded to by Elmington, but some are still pending.

The BBB issued a warning for Westwind Apartments Legacy in Horn Lake, Mississippi and Watersedge Apartments and Townhomes Eden in Memphis.
Augustus Sutton has been living at Eden in Watersedge for about five months. He says he likes apartments, but his air conditioner recently stopped working.
“I have my children with me at night and they are warm too. We’ve been telling them every morning the air isn’t working and they still don’t get it,” Sutton told WMC Action News 5.
According to the BBB, the apartment complex has received 32 complaints in the past three years, including eight in the past 12 months.

Another resident told BBB that his apartment has flooded at least five times in the past month, causing fungus to grow.
In May, a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer was shot and wounded at the apartment complex. In July, Memphis police launched an investigation into a fatal shooting at the apartment complex.
In Horn Lake, the BBB says Legacy as Westwind Apartments has accumulated 14 complaints over the past three years, including 11 in the past 12 months.
“It’s very quiet, but how beautiful the environment is if you don’t fix anything,” said one resident, who asked the WMC not to be identified.
