With general guidance from the Practice Attorney and Account Manager, this position is responsible for processing, monitoring and billing client accounts.
This position is responsible for searching and verifying personal data (name, addresses and phone numbers) on returned mail and accounts for our retail customers. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating personal data in the Collection Master, verifying personal data using Credit Bureau and LexisNexis, and researching debtor assets to verify contact information.

Our program is structured so that each participant engages in meaningful legal work supporting our attorneys in a variety of practice areas and clients at Smith Debnam. Summer associate assignments range from researching and preparing briefs, assisting with discovery requests or responses, and drafting complaints to attending mediations, court sessions and client meetings – all in the context of active client matters. Our objective is to provide law students with significant exposure to a variety of practice specialties through direct participation in activities and venues involving the legal representation of a client.

Each law student is assigned a specific attorney as a mentor to guide participants through their summer experience. The consultant oversees the quality and quantity of work assignments and provides important advice and counsel for the execution of assigned projects. They facilitate performance feedback on every assigned project. Additionally, the mentor’s role is to provide students with an ongoing opportunity to engage in general discussion of broader legal industry and practice management topics.
