Bartels Property Management – How do you benefit from your TCREW membership? I love connecting with other members! It is wonderful to be a support network of such professional women. I’ve moved categories twice since I started – from development, to asset management, and now to asset management, and it’s been invaluable to be able to tap into the TCREW women’s network for advice and insight as I make those transitions.
What do you do at Capital Associates and under what circumstances would I come to you? I am a commercial property manager; I manage all aspects of operations for several commercial properties in the Triangle area, including repairs and maintenance, budgeting, and financial reporting. I do my best to minimize anxiety for our tenants and owners and keep everything running smoothly at our property.

What are your productivity tips? Rest! I’m a big fan of taking a brisk 15 minute walk to reset and refocus.

What personality trait do you attribute most of your success to, and why? Sympathy. It is important to me to understand how the decisions we make affect our tenants, our owners, and the property itself. All of these groups have different priorities and are concerned about impact in different ways. By putting myself in their shoes, I can anticipate their needs, proactively reduce anxiety, and effectively communicate the information they need to know first hand.
What was your first job? I worked at Maggie Moo’s ice cream parlor in high school – it was like Cold Stone where we had to mix ice cream and toppings at the shop.
What mistake did you make early in your career, and what did you learn from it? Sitting on a problem will always make it worse. It’s better to cut the support bar and deal with it early instead of waiting for it to blow up in your face!
What gives you energy in the workplace? Troubleshooting and solving mysteries, especially things that make the life of a tenant at work easier .

What is the biggest misconception people have about your position? The job is more complex than that – you have to be able to think on multiple levels at once and juggle competing interests frequently.
If you could add one thing to the TCREW offer, what would it be? I can’t think of anything right now! We have a new mixer member in January who I think is going well and I Hope to continue moving forward. When we don’t meet virtually, I look forward to new #brewcrew events. However, recently, I have been very impressed with the virtual offer of TCREW in the last month. They did an excellent job making an immediate pivot to a whole new way of networking!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
